Coach Development

Whether you are coaching beginners, giving your playing partners some tips, leading a group, running a programme, working with elite athletes or simply wanting some information to help your own game, our coach development framework has something for you. Our framework aligns with our athlete pathway and provides numerous formal learning modules for squash coaches to develop themselves to the highest standard possible. This enables players of all ages to receive quality experiences that will help ensure their continued participation and development in squash. There are also opportunities for coaches to extend learning through extension modules.

Coach Development


Our coach development framework offers recognised qualifications for coaches working within or across the needs of the identified three broad coaching communities. To receive the relevant qualification(s) coaches are required to complete:

  • Clubs and Schools: Modules 1-10 + Extension Modules 1a, 1b, 2, 5, 6 and 13.
  • District Performance: Modules 11-13 + Extension Modules 1a, 1b, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13.
  • International High Performance: 14-17 + Extension Modules 1a, 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Coaches can choose to qualify in some or all of the specific modules that fall under these broad communities.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The pre-existing Squash Leaders, Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications will be recognised in New Zealand until 31/12/2019. The recognition of prior learning in other sporting environments will also be taken into account.
