Squash New Zealand acknowledges the important roles that coaches play on the game and is proud to announce a new coach development partnership with the online UK-based coaching platform SquashSkills.
The arrangement will offer qualified New Zealand squash coaches with reduced price subscriptions, allowing them to access a range of online coaching resources to go with what they learn from attending the module courses.
Coaching and Development Director Luke Morriss said “one of our key coaching priorities is to provide coaches with the knowledge and tools to support athletes at all stages across the athlete pathway. We’re taking advantage of available technology to support our highly regarded face-to-face coach development activity.”
Launched in 2010, the National Coach Development Framework provides squash coaches with the ability to choose what areas they want to upskill in to effectively meet the age and developmental needs of the players they work with. There are also opportunities for coaches to extend learning through extension modules.
The past 12 months have seen an increase in coach development, with 7 new modules finished during 2016 and another 5 on the way for 2017. So far more than 1,200 coaches have accessed the smorgasbord of learning opportunities from the coaching pathway, all delivered by trained local CoachForce facilitators. A national CoachForce forum is also in the pipeline for January to help the Districts' facilitators roll out a range of modules for their region.
“SquashSkills provides our coaches and facilitators with an online library of squash activities, games and drills to support what they learn when they attend any of our world-class Coach Development Framework modules. This online tool will further enable coaches to provide their players with the best possible squash experiences that will help ensure their continued participation and development in squash” said Morriss.
Coaches who have attended at least one of the modules from the Coach Development Framework will receive an email with information on how to access the special discounted offer.
