After a 117 minute battle against the World Ranked number 9 Simon Rosner, Paul Coll has won his first round and made his way into the quarter final of the Canary Wharf Classic 2017.
Coll played a convincing first game against Rosner managing to work the ball hard and force the errors and the winners from Rosner and Coll took a first game lead 11-8.
In the second game Rosner managed to keep in front of Coll throughout the match and whilst Coll managed to level the game up near the end of the game it was Rosner who managed to claim the game 11-9 and level the game scores 1 all.
Coll and Rosner tussled point for point with some superb shots from both, with the game going long and each player looking to take the lead in games, it was Coll who forced the errors from Rosner to claim the game 12-10 and take the game lead 2-1.
Rosner took a strong lead in the fourth game with Coll not able to find the accuracy in his drops and Rosner managing to play some great winners sending Coll in the wrong direction. Coll however managed to fight hard and draw himself back into the game after Rosner's quick lead but it was Rosner who closed out the fourth game 11-9 sending the match to the fifth.
Coll took the lead in the fifth using the boast well to work Rosner hard, but the German was never set to give up and he clawed back to level the score but Coll was able to clinch the win and the match 11-9.
Coll said "I felt flat in the fourth and the start of the fifth but I stuck in there and managed to get a second wind and step up the court but I was happy with the way I stuck in there and pushed up the court and stuck in there for the fifth".
Coll will now take on world ranked number 15 Daryl Selby where the last time these two met Coll took the win in 4.
