Some degree of risk is inherent in squash – high impact collisions, direction changes that stresses muscles and bones, as well as environmental factors such as the facility. Risks can spill over from the playing area to other areas of the club so we must ensure we have taken precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone – players, coaches, referees, volunteers, committee members, guests and the public at large.
Within our sports’ administrative structure the regional Squash District Association and clubs often work together. - which means there are overlapping duties. When this is the case the respective people in charge must clarify with each other where and when their respective responsibilities apply.
The District appoints coaches for representative squads to coach players at a club. The District’s responsibility in this situation is to assist the club to put a health and safety plan in place and instruct coaches to read this plan prior to entering the facility. The club’s responsibility is to ensure the facility’s risks are documented and reasonably practicable steps have been taken to minimise or eliminate the identified risks.
